Historical Marker Added 2018

One of the newest historical markers in the Savannah Historic District is in honor of Louis B. Toomer.  Toomer was an African-American businessman and real estate agent who founded the Georgia Savings and Realty Corporation on February 23, 1927. The original location of the bank was West Broad Street. Both the bank and the street later underwent name changes. The Georgia Savings and Realty Corporation was renamed to Carver State Bank in 1962. West Broad Street was rebranded Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in the 1980s. The Louis B. Toomer Historical Marker was placed in Chatham Square on June 7, 2018.
